About
Dr. Hilary Allen is a GP with a special interest in allergy medicine, which she developed whilst working in general practice in Australia. She is passionate about providing an evidence-based allergy service for both adults and children. She completed a Masters degree in Allergy Medicine through Imperial College London with Distinction and was awarded the Faculty of Medicine Dean’s prize for Allergy 2019.
She has worked in the paediatric allergy clinic in GUH and provides a private allergy clinic in the Galway Clinic. She has a special interest in milk allergy and is undertaking a PhD at Imperial College London.
What to expect
The allergy consultation takes approximately 45 minutes. It involves a detailed history followed by skin prick testing and occasionally, blood testing. An allergy is then confirmed or outruled as a cause of the underlying symptoms. Some types of allergy are diagnosed on history alone and do not require testing. An individualised management plan is provided.

An allergic reaction can be a distressing experience. Living with allergy can be stressful for individuals and their family and impacts on quality of life. The information available can be confusing. Dr. Allen aims to support patients and their families by providing an accurate diagnosis and clear individualised information on how to manage your own or your child’s allergies.
