Dr. Hilary Allen is a GP with a special interest in allergy medicine which she developed whilst working in general practice in Australia. She is passionate about providing an evidence-based allergy service for both adults and children.
She completed a Masters degree in Allergy Medicine through Imperial College London with Distinction and was awarded the Faculty of Medicine Dean’s prize for Allergy 2019. She previously worked in the paediatric allergy clinic in GUH. She has a special interest in milk allergy and is undertaking a PhD in Milk Allergy at Imperial College London.
Dr. Allen maintains an academic and clinical interest in Allergy. She has presented her research both nationally and internationally, where it received an award at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in Lisbon 2019 and the Jill Warner prize at Imperial College London for research having the most impact on patient care 2019. Her research has been published in the journal of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAI), JACI-IP 2020 . She continues her research in milk allergy at Imperial College London.
Dr. Allen was appointed to the EAACI working group in primary care 2019-2021 and EAACI allied health and primary care taskforce 2019. She is a member of the Irish Association of Allergy and Immunology, the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and EAACI. She has been an invited speaker on allergy medicine nationally to physicians and allied health care professionals. She is an invited reviewer on international allergy journals.
Dr. Allen studied medicine in Trinity College Dublin. On successful completion of specialist training in General Practice, she graduated as a Member of the Irish College of General Practitioners 2009. Having worked in general practice in Ireland, she further expanded her skillset in Australia where she worked for almost 3 years. Whilst there, she completed a Certificate in Dermatology from the RACGP / Australasian College of Dermatology 2015. On returning to Ireland, she gained additional experience working in the paediatric dermatology and allergy clinics in Galway.
